Sinking and Failing at Homeschooling

If any of you are regular readers of my posts here on a Nation of Moms, you know that deadlines and I do not get along.
At all.

So, I definitely did not understand that I was getting into deadline heaven when I first started cyber school with the twins.

If you refer to Why I No Longer Homeschool Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3, you will see that I had very good reasons to go with cyber schooling this year.  If you caught last month’s post on my girls Autism diagnosis, you’ll realize I made the right decision.

So, why am I failing big time?  I mean, we’re not even sinking~ we’re barreling towards the ocean floor with all engines running to capacity.

Our reasons:

  1. Organization…  yeah, not happening here.  I mean, I am organized but my kids are sabotaging me~ every chance they get.  They revel in throwing stuff around and pulling everything off the shelves.  I heard this is common Autism behavior, but that doesn’t help me stop it.
  2. Blogging… blogging is like a machine.  The more time you put into it, the more time it requires.  You can never really catch up.  I’m not giving it up, obviously, I just have to learn how to control the beast.
  3. Time… no mother has enough time.  I have heard there are mothers who do, but I’ve never met one in real life.  A single mothers days are shorter by 3 hours~ really.  It’s been scientifically proven.  {I think my organization time is the 3 hours that I lose.}
  4. Fatigue…  I’ve always envied those mothers who have limitless energy.  You know them~ they have 5 kids {aged 6 and under} and their husband has been transferred 1200 miles away since May.  But, their hair is always done, their house is clean and they even manage to run errands with all the kids in tow.  {Yes, this is a real person.  Hey, Anna!}  In the meantime, I can’t find the energy to shower and we have been eating pasta for 3 days, because I can’t find a sitter to watch the kids while I go to the store.

So, to bring my long winded essay to a close, we suck a cyber schooling.  Our portfolios are late, we miss the online meetings with their teachers about 1/4 of the time, and we’re behind in every subject.  {I’m using “we” so I don’t have to take all the blame.}

But, my girls are thriving!  They are learning and making connections that were never there before.  So, maybe we’re not really that bad…

    HA!! If YOU ever figure anything out, let ME know!! I just can not get myself organized enough to be on a schedule. This morning we missed another appt because my phone was upstairs while I was downstairs and I didn’t hear the alarm! There’s no hope! :)
