One of my favorite places to purchase unique, age-appropriate, educational and imaginative toys and games is the Hearthsong family of brands. With great customer service and a fabulous refund policy to match, Hearthsonghas been wholeheartedly committed to quality, safety and customer satisfaction in their award-winning toys since 1983.
Toys that kids can use over and over again and still enjoy just as much as they did the first time they laid eyes on them. And toys you can be joyful about giving to them. Like this whimsical fairy garden hideaway or giant magnifier:
With the holidays approaching, and more specifically Halloween, you might want to take a peek at what Hearthsong has in store – from their best sellers and Hearthsong exclusives to their USA-made toys, you will surely fall in love with something. Actually, many “somethings!”
One of my son’s “obsessions” is human anatomy – he could literally sit for hours reading about and watching detailed videos on things like the human heart. (Well, with two scientific-minded parents, it was bound to happen, right?) Now he can really play doctor, as we had the opportunity to review some adorable mini scrubs and a real working stethoscope from Hearthsong – and just in time for Halloween.
The 100% cotton, machine-washable scrubs are actually softer than your average scrubs and fit him perfectly. I would be confident saying that the sizing is right on target. (Sizes range from 6 months to 8 years.)
The pants have a pretend drawstring and the top has two snaps at the shoulder (which is definitely needed for my son’s slightly larger than average head). You can even personalize the shirt with up to 10 characters of your choice, though if you have multiple kids and only plan on getting one of these scrubs, you may want to kip this option. The pictures on the website do not do them justice – they are definitely much cuter in real life!
The stethoscope is sturdy enough for little ones to bite on (don’t ask me how I know this), but it’s really made for the older kids. The recommended age is 5 years and older, even though I would say it could possibly be suitable for 3 or 4 years old as well, depending on the child. At 29 inches in length, it’s slightly on the longer side, which is nice if your child is older.
The metal tubes of the two (rather surprisingly comfortable) ear pieces rotate 360 degrees to give your child the best fit angle for his or her ears, however, this is also one of the reasons I think it’s made for older children. It can be a bit frustrating for a younger child to get that to fit perfectly on his or her own. Sometimes it involuntarily rotates as you are trying to fit it onto your ears. An older child (even my 4 year old) has no issues with it, but my 21 month old often gets agitated, and we have to help her get it on properly.
But it really does work! (I might even steal use them myself if my son is not careful!)
Here’s my little guy with his perfect little patient…
