Finding relevant quality images for your blog or website can be a taxing and frustrating activity. Either they are too expensive or the decent ones offered free of charge are just difficult to come by. Unfortunately, for the bloggers looking to make this a more professional business rather than a hobby, professional-looking images are a necessary expense.
I was fortunate enough to be able to review Fotolia, a fabulous source for millions of royalty-free photos, vectors, and video clips. I know what some of you are thinking – millions of choices sounds great until you have to browse through all of them for the perfect one. Actually, searching through their millions of images on their databases is actually as simple as it can get! Just type in what you are looking for, click on the type(s) of file you want (photos, illustrations, vectors, videos) and you’re set. Or, you can search by category. You can even save the ones you like before purchasing in a special section called Lightbox, or download a comp copy to see what it would look like in your project before committing to purchasing. And once you find the image you want to buy, you get to choose the size (different sizes require a certain number of credits) from XS to XXL, depending on what resolution you will need.
- Pay-As-You-Go plans, where you can purchase credits or credit bundles from as low as 75 cents per credit.
- Subscription plans from 16 cents per image, where you never have to worry about credits. These plans allow you to download a certain number of images per day, from 25 to 250 (you choose the amount that suits your needs best), and can last one month up to one year.
Yes, paying the price for a good photo when needed can still be (Ouch!) pricey, but if you do your homework, you will find that not only does Fotolia have some of the best images around, but they are also the best value compared to their competitors, which to me makes it worthwhile.
Use it to add images to your posts and easily make blog buttons, banners and headers. OR, you can print them out in brochures and articles, use them in your presentations or business cards, use them for your homeschooling worksheets and flashcards, and more! You get 3 downloads per day, which translates into up to 42 possible downloads over the 14-day period – over $200 in value each! That’s just enough to get you hooked!
