The Britax B-SCENE: One Size Fits All

To add to their dominating line of car seats (we should know, as we own 3 of them!), the industry leaders in protection, Britax, released 3 brand new strollers: B-Ready, B-Nimble and B-Scene.  We had the privilege of reviewing the B-Scene, an ultra chic modular stroller.  It’s not just your average versatile full-featured stroller, nor is it a rugged, 3-wheeled all-terrain stroller.  Think a more compact, streamlined contemporary urban hybrid!  It can convert from a travel system to an in-line stroller with an optional swiveling front wheel.

We have a large double stroller and even a high-end jogging stroller, but sometimes I need a single stroller for a quick trip or for tight spaces (like clothing stores or crowded groceries stores).  Sometimes I wish I had the best of both worlds – the versatility of my double stroller and the maneuverability of my jogging stroller (that can turn on a dime!) in a convenient and compact package.  Thanks to Britax, now I do!

The Britax B-Scene is the ultimate single stroller combo.  It’s a perfect blend of all the comfort that babies need in a stroller and all the convenience, practicality and ease that a parent needs.

It’s one-size fits all, not only because it’s a “hybrid” but also because of its adjustable height comfort-grip handle bars.  My 3 foot tall son can steer it, as well as my 5’10” husband!

Our first test run was right before Christmas in a (super) crowded Trader Joe’s grocery store. I mean this place was packed!  The B-Scene performed very well, and there was tons of space in the cargo to put in some groceries.

The B-Scene is phenomenal when it comes to folding and opening.  Britax really couldn’t have made it any easier.  You simply pull up on the two releases and it automatically glides down and locks into place BY ITSELF!  The front wheel also tucks itself neatly underneath so it’s not awkwardly poking out in front like with my jogging stroller.  Unfolding it is just as easy with one quick movement.

Watch this video compilation of all the wonderful features:

Quality and Safety: High quality, durable and sturdy without the bulk (though there is a wide wheel base).  I trust Britax and only Britax when it comes to car seat safety for my children (they have unsurpassed safety features and standards), so I would imagine that the safety of this stroller goes along those same lines.

Ease of Use: Like I said, superb in all aspects (folding, reclining, parking, etc.).  Everything is simplied and speedy.  Simple fold with automatic chassis lock.  One-step, linked parking brake with red/green indicator.

Maneuverability and Smoothness of Ride: Moderate when compared to high-end jogging strollers, but when compared to strollers of its class, it’s impressive.   Its full suspension offers the rider (baby/toddler) a very comfortable, smooth and bump-less ride.  Front wheel allows for greater handling and one-hand steering.

Carrying Capacity: For use with children from birth (with infant car seat or bassinet, both of which are not included) to 55 pounds.

Car Seat Compatibility: Included Click & Go integrated adapter works with Britax Chaperone infant car seat and bassinet.  When used with an adapter kit (sold separately), compatible with other major brands (including Graco Snug-Ride, Chicco Key-Fit, and Peg-Perego Primo Viaggio)

Seat: Included reversible toddler seat (for 6 months +) with 3 reclining positions allows the baby to be up higher and closer to the parent.

Seat Belt: The 5-point harness that has to be the easiest buckle ever.  Easy no-thread system allows you to adjust the height of the straps with a knob in the rear of the seat.  Comfort pads and padded head rest are also part of the impressive features.

Storage: Massive underneath storage area with two mesh pockets.  Two additional pockets behind toddler seat.

Wheels: Lightweight expanded rubber tires (no inflation required).  Front wheel can be fixed for rough terrain or swivel for smooth surfaces.  The swivel option allows the stroller to turn on a dime (tightly confined spaces).

Handle Bar: Adjustable height handle (angles up or down, but not telescoping) with comfort grip.

Included Accessories: Large detachable canopy with sun-visor and ventilation window, Rain cover, Britax infant car seat attachment

Accessories Available for Purchase: Cup/snack holders, Boot cover, UV/Mosquito cover, Infant car seat adapter, Bassinet

Weight of stroller: 25 pounds (without canopy)

Out-of-Box Set-up: It took 10 minutes from opening the box to putting the child in the seat.  Extremely simple.

Available in red or black for $399.99 from Amazon

The only drawbacks to this highly configurable stroller are:

  • No cup/snack holders (purchased separately)
  • No tray table
  • I wished it had one more recline setting that allowed a more upright position because my daughter likes to sit more upright.
  • This would pretty much be the ultimate stroller if the wheels were just a touch bigger so it could be used on rougher terrain.  Although, I did take it out in the snow and it managed just fine!

The B-Scene is a stylish “hybrid” stroller that definitely fits its name, as it is perfect in just about every “scenario!”
