My 9 month old daughter has only worn shoes a couple of times over the summer, and each time it lasted about 2 minutes before she discovered them and took them off. I don’t mind her going barefoot at home (and actually prefer it until she gains more stability in her footing), but when we go out I want to protect her little feet from unseen dangers (nails, splinters, rough terrain, etc.). Especially now that it’s getting to be colder outside and she started taking her first steps, I thought it would be wise to reintroduce to her the wearing of shoes.
It’s important for me to choose good footwear for my kids. I have had numerous back and foot problems all of my life, and I’m not sure if they originated from bad footwear as a child or from my dancing. Maybe both. But what I do know is that I want my kids to get head start so as to avoid ending up like me. Most people don’t realize how important foot health truly is, especially while little feet are still developing and forming. Just any pair of shoes on sale may be cute and inexpensive now, but you may have to “pay” in other ways later.
How do I find a good, soft but protective shoe for a budding walker that will stay on? That was our dilemma and pediped was our answer. Pediped shoes are specifically designed for healthy foot development.
As doctors recommend barefoot walking in the early stages of life, the creators of pediped were determined to make a shoe that mimicked bare feet. The pediped Originals are soft-cushioned soled shoes made with a double layer of slip-resistant, high quality leather plus a foam pad on the soles for extra cushioning, so that little feet will not only be protected but comfortable.
“The next best thing to bare feet” pediped creates comfortable and stylish footwear that is healthy for children’s feet. Their three mantras from the beginning were comfort, quality and style, in that order. This is why pediped was one of the first children’s shoe companies the American Podiatric Medical Association awarded their Seal of Acceptance for promoting healthy foot development. pediped is designed to protect your baby’s feet from crawling, to those first amazing steps and into the toddler years.
As soon as we received the cute purple box of Natasha shoes (Originals), I fell in love. They are even more adorable in person than it shows them to be on the website. And in true baby fashion, my daughter swiped one of the shoes right as I opened the box, crawled away as fast as possible to her little corner, and then proceeded to chew on them. (I think that means she likes them, too.)
Pediped constructs their shoes with safety in mind. Therefore, they only use the highest quality, non-toxic materials, which puts my mind at ease (since my daughter so obviously likes to chew them in her spare time).
The shoes we received, the Natasha, are a flexible, non-scuffing pair of black patent Mary Janes that would be perfect for any special occasion (ahem, the holidays are coming and so are plenty of photo opps). They are also available in black/white houndstooth.
Because my little bug is so wiggly, I like that they are easy to put on and securely stay on with the velcro fasteners. She hasn’t tried to take them off either (so they must be comfortable), but she occasionally reaches for them – it must be because they are so darling!
Fun Tid Bit: How do you pronounce pediped? Well, “Pedi” (peedy), as in pediatrician, and “ped,” as in pedal, means “foot” in Latin. Please tell me I’m not the only one that was mispronouncing it all this time.
Buy: A pair of Natasha shoes are $32, but you can purchase a pair of Originals on sale for as low as $12. And pediped is offering free shipping on all order of $75 or more by using the promo code “75ship.”
Looking for a different style to suit your own needs? With almost 100 different styles available in their three lines, you are sure to find the perfect pair for your little one.
Originals are for those taking their first steps (birth to 2 years old); Grip n’ Go is specifically designed for those transitioning into active toddlers (9 months to 3 years old); and Flex are for the confident walkers (1-5 years old). All of the styles have real names (like Natasha), so it could be fun to find a pair that matches your little one’s name. Unfortunately, they didn’t have one named after our little bug… yet!
