Go Green with the Green Clean Chic! (GIVEAWAY CLOSED)

With my 8 month old crawling all over the house, it’s even more important for me to have clean floors.  She puts everything in her mouth, including, at times, the floor.  So I can’t just have “clean” floors.  I want to be sure that what I am cleaning with is nontoxic and safe.

I’ve gotten used to the routine of cleaning with vinegar and water for the past few years (because it was cheap and safe), but who really wants their house smelling like vinegar?  It’s not the best smelling stuff, I’ll admit, but I am also a bit apprehensive about the “smells” in products claiming to be “green” and safe.  That’s why I have mostly stuck to this routine.  Until Green Clean Chic came into my life.

With her 100% pure essential oils, my house is not only being cleaned safely (and cost-effectively), but it also smells wonderful!  And I don’t have to worry about the origin of the smells or aromas of my cleaning products any longer.

Every week I find myself going through one commercial-sized bottle of cleaning solution (self-mixed) – that’s how often I’ve been cleaning lately because I just love how fresh my house has been smelling.  And my 3 year old son can help me clean without me worrying about him touching or inhaling any harmful chemicals.

PhotobucketBut essential oils do so much more than make your cleaning solutions and home smell good.  Essential oils can have antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, they can be pest-deterrents (mice, ants, and mosquitoes), and have therapeutic purposes (skin care, aromatherapy and so forth).  The possibilities seem limitless, and the Green Clean Chic has you covered in that department.  Just visit her website and FaceBook page or ask her (she’s very personable!) for her easy “recipes” for sprays, scrubs, detergents, and much more.

PhotobucketWhat I received to review from Jen, the Green Clean Chic, was a bottle of peppermint oil, a bottle of lemongrass oil, a recipe card and a small cobalt blue spray bottle.  The recipe card I received was for a room freshener, and I have used this on numerous occasions before company arrives.  The power of peppermint is invigorating, though, to be honest, it is not my favorite (maybe it’s because it reminds me of candy canes, which I am not so keen on).  But mixed with the lemongrass, it makes quite a pleasing and inviting combination – perfect for the upcoming holiday season of guests and cold weather.  Even for someone, like me, who doesn’t particularly enjoy the smell of peppermint.

Green Clean Chic’s Reasons to Go Green with Cleaning:

  1. It smells great and makes cleaning more fun.
  2. It is much more cost effective.
  3. It is good for the environment as well as safe to use in your home.
  4. Your family won’t be exposed to harmful toxins and chemicals.
  5. Your kids can actually help you clean.
  6. You won’t have to hold your breath while cleaning the shower anymore.
  7. It cuts down on clutter.

I had long heard that essential oils had much more than cleaning properties, so I looked a few up.  Though I am not legally authorized to validate any medicinal or disinfecting claims (as you must decide for yourself without influence if this is for you and in the privacy of your own home), here are a few more uses I found for peppermint and lemongrass essential oils.

  • As a pest deterrent (great for ants and mice) on countertops, cabinets, windows, doors, basements, storage rooms, pantries, etc.
  • As a flea deterrent on pet beds.
  • As a vasoconstrictor to ease headaches.
  • As an gastrointestinal and digestive aid to soothe upset stomach, gas, motion sickness or nausea.
  • As a congestion reliever (it contains high menthol content).
  • As a reducer of mental exhaustion and stress.
  • As an intensely cooling and soothing foot soak to relieve achy or hot feet.
  • As a stimulator when fatigued or trying to stay alert.
  • As an immune system booster.
  • As cooling relief from sunburns, rashes and general itchiness.
  • As a mouth wash for fresh breath.

  • As an odor neutralizer/deodorizer in trash cans, gym bags, pet beds, litter boxes, garbage disposals, drains, etc.
  • As a compress for reducing fever and inflammation.
  • As a reliever of fatigue and jet lag.
  • As a skin toner to tighten and minimize open pores.
  • As a stimulator of glandular secretions to improve digestion and aid in constipation.
  • As a analgesic and sedative to relieve headaches, cramps, joint and muscle pain.
  • As an antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal agent to inhibit bacterial and fungal growth.
  • As an insecticide (fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, etc.).
  • As a diuretic to reduce edema.
  • As a anxiety soother.
  • As an astringent to speed up blood clotting at site of injury.
  • As a food preservative.

Some precautions prior to use:

  • Essential oils are highly concentrated, so use with care.
  • Keep essential oils away from eyes, children and pets.
  • Not all essential oils are suitable for use on children, pets, or pregnant and nursing mothers.  Therefore, always ask a physician prior to use.
  • Most essential oils must be diluted before use.
  • Some essential oils can be harmful or poisonous if swallowed.
  • Some essential oils can be skin irritants, so do a “patch test” to test sensitivity first.

BUY:  A small bottle of peppermint essential oil costs $10 and of lemongrass $7.  It seems like a lot for such a small amount, but essential oils are potent.  So, a tiny drop actually goes a long way.

With Green Clean Chic, you don’t have to do much sacrificing at all to go “green.” It’s the easy, naturally fragrant, safer and cost-effective alternative to commercial cleaners!
